Representatives of Indonesia?s Ministry of Communication and IT told Detik that the hackers didn?t actually breach the website. Instead, they redirected the site?s visitors to their own arbitrary page by changing DNS records at SoftLayer hosting firm?s servers in Texas.
We?ve seen similar attacks happen in Romania and in Pakistan.
The police have been called in to investigate the incident. The ministry has even contracted a team of criminal investigators to help in tracking down the perpetrators.
The hackers have told Merdeka that they?ve targeted the website in protest against the president. They accuse the government of not doing much to combat corruption.
?The rich get richer, the poor get poorer,? they said.
