Improving your Health and Fitness in 2013 at Geelong's Gym

As a follow on from my last post, I wanted to pass on some tips to help you succeed in reaching a fit and healthy 2013.

The New Year is always a time of goal setting and extremely good intentions to make some positive changes in our lives ? often these include vows that we?re going to get fit and healthy, lose weight etc. ?Most of us start out with a bang and then within a few weeks our good efforts wither and die and we forget about those New Year?s resolutions until next year.

Why do we fail? ?There are probably many reasons, but often it?s because we?ve set ourselves a task and then it just seems too daunting or time consuming, so we let it slide.

Don?t let 2013 be like that! ?Today, I?m going to share with you some great ways to sneak exercise into your day, so you can still reach your health and fitness goals without it seeming like you?re putting a whole load of time and effort into it.

1. ?Walk to the supermarket - most of us have a local supermarket or fruit and veggie store that we pop into several times a week to pick up incidentals. ?If you only have a few things to get, leave your car at home and walk. ?Not only will you save on petrol costs but you?re getting out in the fresh air and getting your legs pumping.

2. ?Get out the bike ? don?t want to walk? ?Well, how about getting your bike out of the shed. ?Often just about as fast as driving, but actually increases your heart rate and is a great form of exercise.

3. ?Park further away ? if you must take your car, try and at least park a few blocks away from your destination and get a short, fast walk in.

4. ?Social walking ? instead of catching up over a coffee, why not catch up with your friends for a walk along the beach or the local walking trail. ?It?s great to get out in the fresh air and there will be none of the sweet treats to tempt you like there are in a cafe!

5. ?Get into the garden ? gardening is a fantastic form of exercise and so rewarding when you see the results of your hard work. ?Plus, adding to your garden is a wonderful way to reduce your carbon footprint.

6. ?Clean to music ? try putting some music with a good beat on while you?re doing your house work, which will help you pick up the pace? which gets the cleaning done faster but also lifts your heart rate.

7. ?Pull out the bathers and go swimming ? whether it be in the pool or at the beach, try and do a few laps instead of just lying around in the water.

8. ?Skip the lift ? that?s right, take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator. ?Start with a flight or two every day and then work on increasing that. ?You?ll be surprised what a difference this will make to the muscle tone in your legs and butt.

So there you have it, some great ways to sneak that little bit of extra exercise into your day. ?Give some (or all) of these things a go and see what a difference it makes to your overall health and fitness.
