The Cornerstone Clubs Support the Fight Against Childhood Obesity

Posted on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 under Cornerstone Chit Chat, In The News with No Comments

As the Spring weather brings runners back outdoors,?The Cornerstone Clubs?have been doing their part to combine that?inspiration?with the spirit of giving back. ?They recently hosted two events that promoted fitness and also gave?families?and individuals the opportunity to be part of the fight against childhood?obesity. Now that?s what we call?happening!

The percentage of children aged 6-11 years in the US who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 20% in 2008.

5k (and more) On May 5th

On May 5th, The Cornerstone Clubs hosted a triple threat event at their Warrington location designed for runners of all ages and levels, including a?Pump & Run, a 5K, and a 1-mile Fun Run. ?Awards were given to Overall 5K Males & Females, Age Group Top 3 Males and Females, Pump & Run Top 3 Males and Females. ?The event benefitted?iRun4life, a non-profit organization that assist?s elementary schools in promoting fun, non-competitive running programs that combat childhood obesity.

260 runners crossed the finish line, including 33 kids participating in the Fun Run! ?Congrats to those who placed including:

Top male, James Swasey with a time of 16:10.41
Top female, Jodi Bass, with a time of 18:53.50
Top male pumper was Tom Brown
Top female pumper with Lynda Terry

As an added bonus, Cornerstone had a special registration table this year with certificates and prizes for anyone running their first 5K. We are told they had about 25 first 5Kers! ?As an ?added? added bonus, Cornerstone debuted at the ?Nifty Fifty?? and provided every 50th?runner who crossed the finish line with a free month membership to Cornerstone! ?All in all, the event raised an estimated $8,000 for iRun4Life!

iRun4Life on May 20th

May 20th was the national iRun4Life Day. ?As an official sponsor, The Cornerstone Clubs hosted a race day at Central Park in Doylestown for K thru 6th grade students, with proceeds going to support the iRun4Life organization. ?To help the iRun4Life?s kids prepare for the big race, Cornerstone provided the elementary schools with frequent visits to discuss race preparation, provide education about health & exercise, and participate in healthy exercises. In addition, they supported a very special group of 6th graders, known as ?Cornerstone Captains? in?their last year of iRun4Life. ?The students were introduced to the practice and benefits of interval & functional training?through a weekly class at Cornerstone in Doylestown.

At Bucks Happening, we are inspired by Cornerstone?s commitment to making a difference in the lives of our Bucks County students and look forward to sharing more Happening Health initiatives with the community.

Get Rid of Large Ear with Prominent Ear Surgery

Bat ear can cause a child to be the subject of ridicule and shame but luckily there is an ear surgery called otoplasty or ear pinning which can correct these problems.

Otoplasty is most commonly performed to address the problem of the ears protrude from the side of the head. It can also correct defects, re-sculpt and shape the ears and reduce the overall size. In order to achieve symmetry and facial balance normally both ears will have to be operated. The cartilage is particularly soft and malleable in children that allow easier manipulation. In case of adults, as they have firmer cartilage it may cause some reshaping restrictions.

The patient is put under general anesthesia and a small incision is made in the crease behind the ear that is between the outer edge of ear and head during the operation.

Cartilage and skin is either reshaped or removed, and stitched back into place whenever needed. The procedure normally lasts anywhere from two to five hours depending on the extent of the surgery.

About their child's feelings on bat ear most plastic surgeons recommend parents to stay alert. Doctors advice parents not to put any undue pressure over the children until they want to do it. Children might find the recovery process more difficult in comparison to adults. Sleeping positions will have to be adjusted in order to accommodate the ears because no pressure can be applied to the area for up to two weeks. After ear surgery, dressing will be applied for the first few days. Especially in the case of children, plan for at least three weeks off before returning to normal activities.

There are minimal risks involved and the signs of bat ear surgery are nearly invisible although the recovery period might be daunting. In some rare cases hematoma has occurred. Since the incision is placed at the fold behind the ear, no one will be able to see it so excessive scarring is uncommon. No one will even suspect that you had any surgery at all as the results are usually very subtle.

In many cases, adult patients seek otoplasty surgery. Ear pinning in Sydney is often combined with other facial plastic surgery procedures, such as rhinoplasty or face lift surgery in such cases. Whereas small children may require a general anesthetic, one benefit to performing ear reshaping surgery in adults is that the procedure is easily tolerated with only oral sedation or mild IV sedation.

Resulting in confidence and raised esteem ear pinning can make huge improvements in both children and adults. It is important to educate your child about the procedure and have them involved in the process if you are considering surgery for them. Be prepared to take the necessary time off to assist your child in the recovery process and ensure that both you and your child's expectations from the outcome are realistic. If you considering ear pinning in Sydney, visit plastic surgeon Sydney in chatswood and Parramatta nsw Australia.

Stipulation

Make sure any contrivance you buy comes with a substantial warranty. These devices should latest you ten years at least and you should try to make certain it is covered for at least a third of that time. If the manufacturer or stock you?re thinking of buying from doesn?t present an acceptable warranty period, think gravely about buying from someone other. Even if it costs you a bit more up front, this is one region where you can?t afford to skimp.

Nursing Home in Bangalore | health article

If you are looking for a feel-home Nursing home in Bangalore for your loved one, your search does not end with the availability of the right medical facility. Presence of certain quality factors is equally important. A nursing home is primarily set up to provide health care facilities to older adults outside of a hospital. In this busy world when we all are busy chasing our careers and dreams, it is value, love and sense of responsibility that turns us towards our elderly, who are at a stage in their life when they require utmost care, love and most importantly right medical facilities. This is when the importance of a good nursing home that can provide custodial care with assistance in getting in and out of the bed, feeding, bathing, dressing up is required for senior people. Apart from assistance, a licensed physician and a professional nurse to take care of each patient should be in the premises on a 24-hour basis. Other medical professionals such as occupational or physical therapists are also available in a nursing home in Bangalore. This allows the delivery of medical procedures and therapies on site that would not be possible in other housing. Since a nursing home involves parting from your much loved one, one should take extra care while selecting a comfortable home for them. A quick take-note itinerary would help you settle for the best nursing home in Bangalore: ? The location of the nursing home should be in proximity to your house in Bangalore so that you can visit your loved ones frequently. ? A professional and friendly staff should be available round the clock to take care of the elderly. The staff should also be well trained in disaster management and other emergency situation. You must also take note of the behavior of the staff towards the elderly if they are soft, friendly and respectful. ? A cheerful and chirpy environment at the nursing home would help your loved one settle down with ease and comfort. To avoid a monotonous routine, you must always check if the place occasionally plans outings, events and otherwise activities on a regular basis. ? You must also make sure that the surroundings are safe as well as clean and dust free especially under the furniture and in the corners. Also take note of the toilets if they are user friendly and the stairs have hand trails to help climb up and down etc. ? The nursing home should be not be dingy. It should airy, well-lit and spacious. A small garden area would an added advantage for them to take a stroll. ? A clean record in terms of adhering to legal and environmental laws is a must. And, if any, they should have been resolved. ? A positive opinion of the residents that live at the nursing home in Bangalore themselves shall give you the required confidence to select the nursing home for your loved one. But you should always remember that elders are little stingy, hence you should also take the opinions of the staff and other important people. ? Always, always and always take consequent surprise visits to take note of the actual culture. Plan your visits at a time when activities would be in course eg. During mealtimes if all the residents are dining together and if the food served offers them variety and not just oatmeal and soups or during activity time to check if all the members are prompted to participate. ? Last but not the least, you must take in account the cost, that the homes should be affordable and well-facilitated. Your loved ones would sure understand the best you do for them while not blasting on the budget. Amid a plethora of nursing homes spread in the city of Bangalore, one of the nursing homes that stands out is at the Bangalore Genesis Hospital. While you would get a lot of options for the elderly care home from sources like internet, friends, families and consultants, one the best Nursing Home In Bangalore that has stood clean and strong on its values and service is? Award-winning Chevy Volt commercial proves electric hybrids will keep you safe from zombies

For?all the faults of electric vehicles (in general), the Chevy Volt does have some pretty good selling points. It was named?North American Car of the Year, 2010. Its selling price of $31,645 is pretty good for an EV, and the Volt?qualifies for some tax rebates (in certain states) on top of that. And its range is so good that it'll help you escape zombie attacks. Or, at least, that's what Chevy's newest ad for the Volt suggests.

Zombie Ride, a short one-minute film created by Josh Soskin as an entry into the?Mofilm Barcelona 2012 Video Contest, shows a pair of friends running out of gas on a desert highway as a horde of marauding zombies approaches. One of the men stumbles, and just as the duo are about to be overtaken by the monsters, a beautiful woman nonchalantly pulls up in a Chevy Volt to save the day.

We're not sure whether having a car that requires lengthy plug-in sessions is really thebest thing to have in the event of a?zombie attack, but we suppose you have to be willing to suspend reality at all levels if you're even considering such a scenario in the first place.
