Wildlife exporters consulted on proposed closed season ? NCN ...

A consultation with wildlife exporters has been hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the environment?s wildlife management authority on a proposed closed season for wild birds.

Minister, Robert Persaud says the move, which will see wild life species preserved and protected will ensure that key players have a say in decision making.

The wildlife exporters were reminded of compliance with respect to rules and regulations governing the trade.

Dr. Robin Austin, chairman, wildlife management authority, in underscoring the importance of the trade pointed to that fact that the consultation will significantly improve the wildlife export system.

He added that while much has been done at the governmental level to improve the wildlife export system, exporters have not been meeting the closing session for stock replenishment.

Meanwhile, Head of Wildlife division, Alona Sankar while speaking on the outlines of the proposals, made reference to the wildlife act of 1919 which has become somewhat outdated.
