Monsters, Mummys, and More at These ... - Family Friendly Knoxville

Creepy Festivals and Trick-or-Treating Events

Boo! at the Zoo continues October 25th-30th from 5:30-8 p.m.? Admission is $6, children 2 and under are free.? Parking costs $5.? Members of the zoo receive a $1 discount on Boo! admission and FREE parking.? The Knoxville Zoo is located at 3500 Knoxville Zoo Drive.

The Town of Farragut will host the 16th annual Freaky Friday Fright Nite on Friday, October 26th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mayor Bob Leonard Park on Watt Road. This fun event benefits the Ronald McDonald House, Children age 12 and under and in costume are invited to ?trick or treat? around the walk trail at the park. Family Friendly Knoxville, along with Little Red Hen Consignment Tagging Service will be there handing out candy, stickers, and more! Stop by and say ?hi!? We?d love to meet you!!

Cool Sports, located at 110 S. Watt Road, will hold their annual bash, Hallow-Skate directly following Freaky Friday. Wear your costume and enjoy ice skating, disco lights, pumpkin painting, costume contest, candy, prizes, and a DJ.

The Zone is hosting it?s 1st Annual Fall Festival. Attractions include a haunted forest, hay rides, bonfire, open play with inflatables, and carnival games. Admission is $7 per child. Come join the fun Sundays-Thursdays 6:30-10 p.m. and Fridays from 6:00-11:00. The Zone is located at 5331 Western Avenue.

Historic Cherokee Caverns invites kids of all ages to come and Trick-or-Treat in the Cave. Come out October 26th-31st dressed up in your favorite costume and trick or treat from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The cave can easily accommodate strollers and wheelchairs. Admission is $7 per person for ages 2 and above. Cherokee Caverns is located at 8524 Oak Ridge Highway.

The Grove Center Pumpkin Fest will be held Saturday, October 27th beginning at 10 a.m. This fun event features, a costume parade for kids and pets, a kid?s zone, craft demonstrations, arts & crafts vendors. The Grove Center is located at 125 Randolph Road in Oak Ridge.

The 2nd Annual Trick or Trees event will be held at UT Gardens on Saturday, October 27th from noon-4 p.m. Learn about bats, jack-o-lanterns, and other creepy crawly creatures, and make a ghostly craft to take home. Don?t forget to wear your best costume. Admission is $6 per child, 12 and under.

Riverview Family Farm will host Fall Family Fun Day on Sunday, October 28th from 1-5 p.m.? For $7 admission, have fun with hayrides, face painting, corn bin, cow train, and more. Children are invited to wear their Halloween attire. Bring a picnic blanket and relax by the lake. Riverview Farms is located on Prater Lane off Choto. For more information, visit their website. First Farragut United Methodist Church will host a Trunk or Treat event on Sunday, October 28th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. There will be spooky maze, games, bounce house, a chili cook-off,? and a costume contest for children and families. First Farragut UMC is located at 12733 Kingston Pike.

Get treats, enjoy crafts, and more at Woodlawn Christian Church?s Trunk or Treat event on October 28th from 5:30-7 p.m. Woodlawn Christian Church is located at 4339 Woodlawn Pike.

Knoxville Center Mall and West Town Mall will offer trick-or-treating on Halloween night from 5:30-8 p.m. Ghosts and Goblins of all sizes can enjoy a safe and climate-controlled environment to stock up on their favorite treats. Masks are allowed on children 12 years old and younger and toy weapons are not allowed.

Haunted Train Rides

Secret City Scenic Excursion Train will host Halloween Spooktacular Train Rides on Saturday and Sunday, October 27th and 28th. The train departs at 11 a.m., 1, and 3 p.m. The cost is $17 for adults, $13 for children 3 through 12. Board the Secret City train at the Heritage Center (former K-25 plant) ten miles west of Oak Ridge.

The Halloween Eerie Express?trains depart from Tennessee Valley Railroad?s Grand Junction Station in Chattanooga for a fun filled round-trip journey on October 26th and 27th at 5:45 and 7:45 p.m. Passengers begin by boarding a vintage train for a trip over four bridges and through Missionary Ridge Tunnel.?Once arriving at the Funhouse Station, riders disembark and enter the Funhouse area. Tickets are $22 each for ages 2 & up and should be purchased in advance to avoid disappointment.

Spooky Tours and Storytelling Events

The Annual Fountain City Fountain of Fables takes place tonight (October 22nd), October 23rd, 25th, 27th at Fountain City Branch Library beginning at 5 p.m. Knoxville Writers Guild, Youth Division shows off their talents in this annual storyteller?s festival. This year?s performers are students from Central, Halls, Fulton High Schools. They will present original tales ? some spooky ? some not so spooky, but all wonderful. The Festival will also feature free face painting. All ages are welcome to come for this fun fall festival.

The HearthScares Tour at James White?s Fort, highlights some of Knoxville?s scariest landmarks. Tours last one and a half hours each include stories about the Knoxville?s own Frankenstein, Knoxville?s first mass murderer, John Roberts, the Spirit of the Tennessee Theatre, and?Hank?s Last Ride.?Tours began and end at James White?s Fort located at the intersection of Hill Avenue and Hall of Fame Drive. Free parking is available. Reserve your spot for the upcoming tours on October 22, 23, 29, & 30th that depart at 7:00 p.m. each evening. Each tour ends with a marshmallow roast around the fires at the Fort. Admission for Adults 16 and over is $10 and $6 for children ages 6?15.

Join Halloween Pajama Storytime at Howard Pinkston Branch Library at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23rd. Particpants will hear Hallowen stories, eat yummy witch?s brooms, and make a pumpkin craft. Ages 2-6 welcome with an accompanying adult.

All aboard the SS Nightmare, a Haunted History Cruise on the Tennessee River.? For $15/person, hear the history of some of the spookiest events in the Knoxville riverfront area as you cruise along with Captain ?Sam Clemens? and ?Ms Drusilla.?? Cruise October 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th and 31st at? 7, 8, and 9 p.m. This cruise boards at 300 Neyland Avenue and is fun and entertaining cruise for ?kids? of all ages.? Haunted Halloween Tours at Mead?s & Ross Marble Quarries will take place on October 25th at 7:30 p.m. Families with children ages 10 and up are invited to discover hauntingly fun information and stories as you are lead through the dark, spooky quarries. Preregistration is required for all of these events, call 577-4717 ext. 110 to register. The cost $10 for non-members and $7 for members. Ijams Nature Center is located at 2915 Island Home Avenue.

The Halloween Haunts and Haints Storytelling event will be held at Marble Springs on Saturday, October 27th beginning at 4 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults (16 and up), $3 for children (ages 4-15), children 3 and under are FREE, with families paying no more than $20. Activities include a costume contest, children?s activities, a bonfire, trick-or-treating, and spooky stories (they get scarier and scarier as the evening goes on!). Marble Springs is located at 1220 W Governor John Sevier Hwy.

Blount Mansion will host their annual spooky Ghosts & Ghouls Tour on October 27th and October 29th at 6:30 and 8 p.m. Blount Mansion is located at 200 W. Hill Ave.

The Halls Branch Library will have a Halloween Bash on Halloween day at 11 a.m. Children ages 2-5 are invited for some not-so-scary Halloween fun. There will be stories, crafts, candy and a costume contest.

Costume Photography Event

John Black Photography will be taking pictures of kids, adults, and pets in their Halloween costumes this Friday, October 26th from 4-8 p.m. For only $25, you?ll get a file to print as many photos as you?d like, all dressed up in costume! All proceeds benefit East Tennessee Children?s Hospital. John Black Photography is located at 501 Union Ave. in the Daylight Building.

Not-so-scary Movie Event

The Lawson McGhee Library will host a Creature Feature Double Feature on Saturday, October 27th.? The features films are Beetlejuice and Ghostbusters, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
